As you’ve might probably thought, video poker originates from the game of traditional poker and also from slot machines. The game has become very successful because most players have known poker rules and liked the easy-to-use slot machines. Thanks to that, Video Poker, over the years, has become one of the most popular non-table games in casinos, both traditional and online. The history of slots started in the mid-1970s, along with the development of personal computers. So, with the development of technology and economy, the idea of video poker became a reality enough to combine the part of a computer with a television-like monitor. As you can imagine, the first video poker games at this time were rather simple. As technology developed and businessmen saw the good points of this technology, everyone started to do anything to make money on video poker. ‘Solid State’ (which is a name for the combination of the part of computer that controls what it does and television-like monitor), roulette, horse racing, and poker were all in offer at this time and it was Dale Electronic’s product ‘Poker-Matic’ that was the most developed, successful and well-known.

When the Fortune Coin Company built a video bell slot machine in 1975, that thing soon changed into a draw poker machine and became very popular. The even more development came when the video chip was invented in the mid-70s, and also video poker became a fact after SIRCOMA (which you know today as International Game Technology – still a leader in the industry) started to offer its ‘Draw Poker’ in 1979. Video poker soon became a popular game in almost every casino and its popularity lasts to these days. Video poker is so attractive to gamblers because it is less serious than traditional poker, but still needs a little thinking and it is easy to play on simple slot machines.
