What is the game about?

Well, the goal is to bet for the side whose cards have a point total closest to 9. Point total calculation is made according to the rules below:
*aces count as 1
*cards 2 through 9 count at face value
*10 and all face cards count as 0

Remember, that the combination of cards can not be higher than 9. That’s why if you are for instance dealt a 9 and a 7, it doesn’t mean your total is 16, but 6. In the same way, if you are dealt a 3 and an 8, your total is 1, not 11, etc...
The procedure of the game is following: the dealer deals 4 cards, each 2 for the house and player.

Now, if the point total of either or both sides is 8 or 9, it’s called “a natural” and no more cards are dealt. If the point total of both sides is the same, it’s a tie. If there is neither “natural”, nor “tie”, additional card is dealt in accordance with some rules:
If the player’s initial hand adds up to 6 or more, he must stand and will not be dealt additional cards. If the player’s initial hand is 5 or less, he or she will be dealt an additional card. If, at the same time the house hand adds up to 7 or more, the house must stand. The house must take an additional card, if its total adds up to 0,1, or 2.

If the house hand totals 3, and the player’s third card is nothing other than 8 ( in Baccarat, the player is dealt the cards before the house), the house will hit. The house will also hit in other cases. Eg: if the house hand totals 4, and the player’s third card is nothing other than 1,8,9,0. Another case: if the house hand totals 5, and the player is dealt 4,5,6, or 7. And finally, the house will hit, if its hand totals 6, and the player’s third card is 6, 0r 7. Payoffs in Baccarat are free from ambiguity. For example, if you bet on a winning player’s hand, you will be paid 1 to 1.

If you bet on a winning house hand, you will also be paid at 1 to 1. If you bet on a tie, you will be paid at 8 to 1. If you play online baccarat, you will notice that the tables in most cases have a minimum bet of $1 and a maximum bet of $250. Ofcourse they may vary, so you may check which online casino proposes which ranges and percentages.
